July General Meeting of the NYC DSA Healthcare Working Group

Take the plunge to win universal healthcare!

We are holding an outdoor meeting followed by an optional dip in the New York City's largest pool in Astoria from 4pm.

We'll be near the War Memorial in a shady spot, between Astoria Pool and the East River.

Bring picnic blankets, folding chairs, water, sunscreen and anything else to be safe and comfortable on a hot day. We do not have a virtual option, but we will in August.

Building on our electoral wins, can we re-orient our chapter to fight for the New York Health Act while millions of New Yorkers have their healthcare defunded by Trump?

We have shared a brief resolution for our working group:

We resolve to build a movement to pass the New York Health Act in 2027 as a Citywide Priority Campaign, led by rank and file members of strategic unions.

Our organizing committee has heard overwhelmingly from our members that now is the time for NYHA - so we are holding this meeting to hear arguments for and against, and amendments to, this resolution that would channel our working group's efforts, enlisting talented and motivated people from across our organization and beyond to work towards this goal.

Come learn about the New York Health Act, a bill to de-privatize healthcare and send the extortionist insurance companies packing. No more premiums, deductibles, and co pays! No denials of care or medication and no restricted networks! There will be time Q&A and discussion.

The purpose of this strategy session is to finalize a NYC DSA Citywide Priority Campaign proposal to win the New York Health Act in 2027, to bring to your comrades, branches and the next DSA convention in Nov 2026.

We will start with a power-mapping exercise, agreeing on short/medium/long term goals then break out into field, communications, research/education, electoral, labor subgroups.

Please familiarize yourself with the New York Health Act by reading resources from Physicians for a National Health Program, attending our next NYHA 101 or reaching out to the OC or fellow members of our working group for a 1:1 (join our WhatsApp community if you haven't already).

This strategy session will not be a space to debate the finer points of the bill, but rather to plan how our ascendant socialist organization will win this transformative health and labor legislation that will materially affect every person in New York, and be the first domino to fall for an Improved Medicare for All.
